Mint as fresh as the moment it was picked
Are you searching for the best-tasting fresh mint? You’ve found it!
When Colman’s began their search for the best-tasting mint, they tried growing varieties from all over the world, only to find the most flavoursome mint was growing in Norfolk all along.
Today, Brundall mint, as it’s known, is grown across four farms by families who specialise in producing this variety. The leaves are picked and processed at our mill within 2 hours to retain their flavour and natural green colour.
In blind taste tests, our mint product comes out top!
Why does our mint taste so good?
Norfolk provides the perfect conditions for growing mint. It likes a lot of sunshine in the summer and in winter it doesn’t like it to be too wet.
We have free-draining sandy soils, which are good for over-wintering mint. There’s a slightly coastal climate, so we don’t get severe frosts. The four growers use irrigation to give the mint perfect conditions in which to grow. This gives us good quality, reliable crops.
The growers, in conjunction with Nicholson Machinery, developed their own unique mint harvester which carefully strips the leaves from the stems, leaving the stems in the field, to give our mint sauce the best taste and texture.
Our growers are within an hour of our factory so the mint leaves can be blended swiftly after harvesting to ensure freshness and taste are retained.
